Traffic School FAQ
Q. I just received a citation
what do I do now?
A. You must first appear within twenty one days to the traffic
courthouse of the county that you received the citation in. In some
cases this may be done by writing through the mail. Once you have
been determined to be eligible to attend traffic school (you may only
attend once every 18 months) you will than be required to pay the
full bail amount plus an additional administrative fee ($20-35) before
you can sign up for traffic school. This administrative fee is different
than a Traffic Violator School’s fee for services.
Q. How do I sign up for
Traffic School?
A. You can use the electronic registration system on this website
(click the “registration” link), you can appear in person to our office
location or you can phone ahead.
Q. What information do I need
to give you?
A. To register you for a class we will need your full name, permanent
address, and daytime phone number. You may be asked for more information
pertaining to your citation in order to expedite your actual check-in
on the day of the class. All of this information is confidential and
will be kept for only three years. At SF Bay Traffic Violator School
we take every precaution to protect your information.
Q. When do you hold classes?
A. We hold classes every Saturday from 9am – 5pm and every other week
we have a two-part evening class on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30pm
- 10pm (check current listings for the next evening class).
Q. How big are the classes?
A. The Tuesday and Wednesday Evening classes typically range from
8- 18 persons. The Saturday classes are usually a bit more popular
and will range from 10 – 22 persons. Note: At this time our facility
can only accept a maximum of 22 students for any class, so pre-registration
is very important in guaranteeing you a seat!
Q. What do I do after I have attended
the class?
A. Upon completing the class you will receive two copies of your completion
certificate. You are advised to keep the yellow copy for your records
(at least three years) and than you must deliver the white copy to
the courthouse you originally paid the fine in. In some cases you
can mail your certificate to the courthouse (it is recommended that
you use “certified mail” or another form of documented proof of mailing)
if you have adequate time before your due date. Otherwise you must
hand deliver your certificate to that courthouse. Some counties actually
have a “Completion Certificate Drop-box” where you can drop off your
completion certificate. Anyway you do it you must make sure it arrives
before your due date.
Q. What do I do if my due date
has already passed?
A. It is your responsibility to complete traffic school in a timely
manner and deliver your completion certificate before your due date.
If you are unable to do this and you still wish to complete traffic
school as you originally intended you must go back to the court where
you initially agreed to complete traffic school and speak with a representative.
You will have to explain the circumstances of your failure to complete
traffic school in the given time period and may or may not be allowed
additional time to complete it.
